Came home this evening to find a dead red-headed woodpecker on the front lawn. We've had other beautiful creatures here -- such as a flicker and an owl. The woodpeckers are regular residents of our yard, inhabiting the trees in back. Sometimes, we watched them running down tree trunks head first. We do not know what happened, but we buried him with the other wild animals we've had over the years.
